What is the difference between "Organic Position" and "Local Pack" in the report?
Great question. The Organic Position refers to the standard blue links that appear in Google results. The Local Pack (or Map Pack) is the block of 3 businesses with a map that appears at the top. TrueRanker tracks both separately in the same row, so you can see if you rank #1 organically but are missing from the Map (or vice versa).
How does TrueRanker detect my business in the map results?
It is very simple. In the Project Settings, you enter your Business Name exactly as it appears on your Google Business Profile. When we scan the local results for your selected city, our system looks for that specific name string to confirm if you are appearing in the Local Pack and at what position (#1, #2, or #3).
Can I track rankings in very small towns or specific zip codes?
Yes. Our database covers thousands of cities and towns globally. You can select the specific location for each keyword. Pro Tip: If you can’t find a specific small town in our list, just contact our support team, and we will add it to the database for you usually within 24 hours.
What does the blue "Map Pin" icon mean in my keyword table?
If you see a blue Map Pin icon in the “Local Pack” column, congratulations! It means your business is featured in the top map results. The number inside the pin (e.g., 1, 2, or 3) tells you exactly which spot you hold in that block.
Why are the rankings different from what I see on my own phone?
When you search on your phone, Google uses your precise GPS location and your personal browsing history to bias the results. TrueRanker simulates a neutral user searching from the center of that specific city or town. This gives you an objective benchmark of your SEO performance, unpolluted by your personal cookies.
Can I verify the results visually?
Absolutely. We don’t want you to trust a number blindly. Click the Magnifying Glass icon (View SERP) next to any keyword to open a “Snapshot.” This shows you the actual cached page from Google, so you can see your listing, the map, and your competitors exactly as they appeared during the scan.
Does this work for Service Area Businesses (SAB) without a physical address?
Yes. Even if you hide your address on Google Maps (common for plumbers, electricians, etc.), as long as your Business Name appears in the Local Pack results for that city, TrueRanker will detect and track it.
Can I track my local competitors too?
Yes. You can add competitor websites to your project. While we specifically track your business in the Map Pack using your business name, you can monitor how your competitors are performing in the organic results for the same local keywords to find gaps in your strategy.
Is mobile tracking different from desktop tracking?
Yes, and it matters a lot for Local SEO. “Near me” searches are predominantly mobile. In TrueRanker, you can choose to track keywords on Desktop, Mobile, or Both. Ranking #1 on Desktop doesn’t guarantee you are #1 on Mobile, so we recommend tracking both.
